Creativity...not on hold

My quest to stretch my creativity hasn't been on hold although it may seem that way from this blog. I failed miserably to take photos of the last set of cards I made. I sent one to Em and the other 3 were thank you cards for our colleagues across town who came and helped us out when we had flooding issues. My other endeavors have been focused on a second short story. This one is centered on a non-sexual male/female friendship that doesn't involve one of them being homosexual. Anyone else noticed the boy-girl pairings either end romantically or someone is gay? That bothers me, so I'm working on fixing it :) Just an update for those who actually read this.

Inaugural Speech Wordle

I didn't create this. I have just borrowed it from another user who got to it before I did. What a neat representation of the speech. I was surprised by how large "less" is and how small "history" was. Just goes to show, first impressions aren't always accurate. :)

Not creative at all...but I had to share

What I wouldn't give to be sitting next to them. Two of my favorite singers and an NFL game. Yep. That'd be heaven :)

Reflecting

I've decided to spend 2009 really focusing on getting back to some creative endeavors I've abandoned or neglected along the way. I used to really enjoy writing both short stories/prose and poetry. I've always had a love for photography, despite knowing nothing of any useful knowledge about it. So I'm getting back to those. I'll probably use this blog to share my results with "the world." (Because we all know the world doesn't exist outside this blog!) I've posted one of my inspirations below. It's a letter I wrote myself in 2001 to the future me. aug 2001 becky, this letter is to myself. the myself of the future. my advice is to never give up on yourself. you know exactly who you are. no one else does. keep your head up. look those you meet in the eyes. your eyes are the gateway to your heart. don't let yourself be sold out. play the game the way it needs to be played. life won't always be a cookie cutter world. never lose the music in ...

patchwork heart

when you truly care for someone, you give them a piece of your heart and they give you one in return. and what we all end up with is a patchwork heart. all the distinct pieces from all those you care for bound together by love. some pieces will be unidentifiable as they originated from one whose love is unknown to you. or others whose love you don't return. but those pieces left holes waiting to be filled, as you well know having holes waiting to be patched in your own heart. other pieces may be old and well worn. or yet others may be torn and patched up. or others still ripped apart and can never be repaired. or still others that were stolen or broken and leave only remnants of stitches behind to signal their absence. and then there are those whose pattern matches your own and are sewn in so well it may be hard to detect where one ends and the other begins. these are your family and those best friends double-stitched around the edges. bound tightly to last longer and withstand the...

Red-sequined dress

For Emily, whose dreaming and scheming inspired this story ‘What was she waiting for?’ Molly couldn’t believe she’d actually gone through with it. Sure, she’d been joking with her friends about it for months, but that was all it was supposed to be…a really great inside joke. And yet here she was, sitting on the spotlit stage with a grand piano in a red-sequined cocktail dress. Thankfully, the dress had only set her back $25 at her favorite little boutique on University, and the owner was right, she did feel fabulous in it. But that did not make the whole situation Molly found herself in any less stupid. Tonight was a first. And firsts are supposed to be exciting. She’d never been one of those girls in high school. No, not one of those girls, she hadn’t even been close to that. When it came to boys, she waited until things “happened,” meaning he had to make the first move. A process she had convinced herself she was content with until she looked around and found herself surrounded by ...
