when you truly care for someone, you give them a piece of your heart and they give you one in return. and what we all end up with is a patchwork heart. all the distinct pieces from all those you care for bound together by love. some pieces will be unidentifiable as they originated from one whose love is unknown to you. or others whose love you don't return. but those pieces left holes waiting to be filled, as you well know having holes waiting to be patched in your own heart. other pieces may be old and well worn. or yet others may be torn and patched up. or others still ripped apart and can never be repaired. or still others that were stolen or broken and leave only remnants of stitches behind to signal their absence. and then there are those whose pattern matches your own and are sewn in so well it may be hard to detect where one ends and the other begins. these are your family and those best friends double-stitched around the edges. bound tightly to last longer and withstand the test of time. all these pieces sewn together bound by love creating our ever unfinished patchwork heart.
