Poetry for publication?

As some of you may know, I've been working on a short story/short fiction piece on and off for a while now. I'm not doing anything serious with it. It's just something to do, a story I want to tell, but nothing I'm compelling to pour a lot of concerted effort into. Not yet, anyway. However, I have found a writing buddy on campus. Granted we spend more time chatting than writing during our sessions, but having the story present in the front of my mind has been helpful in me mentally developing it. Anyway, so I've been working on that, but not sharing it. This writing buddy of mine sent out an all call request for submissions for the local writer's guild anthology. For the first time, I'm seriously contemplating submitting pieces. Ironically, all of the pieces I'm looking at are poems, not short fiction. I've posted all of them on this blog at some point or another before. But I'm still a little nervous about submitting them. Publishing them he...

Reflecting

I've decided to spend 2009 really focusing on getting back to some creative endeavors I've abandoned or neglected along the way. I used to really enjoy writing both short stories/prose and poetry. I've always had a love for photography, despite knowing nothing of any useful knowledge about it. So I'm getting back to those. I'll probably use this blog to share my results with "the world." patchwork heart

when you truly care for someone, you give them a piece of your heart and they give you one in return. and what we all end up with is a patchwork heart. all the distinct pieces from all those you care for bound together by love. some pieces will be unidentifiable as they originated from one whose love is unknown to you. or others whose love you don't return. but those pieces left holes waiting to be filled, as you well know having holes waiting to be patched in your own heart. other pieces may be old and well worn. or yet others may be torn and patched up. or others still ripped apart and can never be repaired. or still others that were stolen or broken and leave only remnants of stitches behind to signal their absence. and then there are those whose pattern matches your own and are sewn in so well it may be hard to detect where one ends and the other begins. these are your family and those best friends double-stitched around the edges. bound tightly to last longer and withstand the...
