Things I Love Thursday!!

One would think that after being sick (with H1N1/cold/flu/something feverishly icky) this weekend, that my post this week wouldn't be so TILTy as much as it was TIHTy (TIHateT). But you my friends would be wrong. Despite the sickness I had an amazing week. And the best part about it? It's just the beginning of a fabulous run of things to come this month!!

  • Brunch with Em at Brocach's- Yummo!! Corned Beef Hash done right, with coffee and great company on the side :) It was great to catch up IRL with Em. I don't transition well from IRL to long-distance well if you haven't noticed. Lots of traveling is involved. But when you have great friends, it's so worth it!
  • Seeing Shanna- On the Becky isn't such a great friend front, I've lost touch with Shanna more than I should have, but I got a chance to hang with her (w/o the kids cause I was sick) Saturday night. I need to make a bigger effort to be there for her. We were so close in high school and she really pulled me through that. It's my turn to return the favor :) Especially if that means supplying her with book lists. Ideas? She's just reading Twilight now, and gave me Cormac McCarthy's The Road to read. John Green will be next, but suggestions are welcome.
  • Breakfast with Kyle- Another high school friend. Seriously, only with him can I expect to have a completely serious conversation about becoming a hobo and the hobo lifestyle. (Sadly we've had this conversation before.) Sometimes I wonder how dull my life before I met him was. Crazy conversation and good food at the airport.
  • Apple orchard with the family- I am a huge huge fan of the apple orchard. My fam and I have been going to the same one my whole life. And if you've had their hot apple cidar donuts, you know why! It's a great place to shop for apples, jams, mixes, salsas, and cute knick nacks. It was my first trip this season and the whole family came with :)
  • Finding out Justin will be in Omaha- We hadn't heard back if he was going to make it to our Omaha extravaganza weekend or not, but Gretchen managed to get a hold of him and he's coming. The gang is all set, and the schedule is empty. A laid-back play-it-by-ear weekend with old friends and a new friend.
  • Getting to meet Autumn IRL- I'm excited to actually meet my BEDA buddy in person. I can't believe that we've only known each other since April and met thanks to a great pairing by Maureen Johnson. That woman should take up some sort of matchmaking service :)
A few other things: finding out good news from friends, my cousins re-locating not in Canada, being the "best librarian in the country," chatting with faculty around the library, taking beautiful fall pictures in Madison (linked soon) and surviving 2 night shifts this week :)

    Yay! I am excited for this weekend too. It is crazy to think of how our friendship came to be. For all four of us.

    glad you had a good week Becky! we have to plan for my trip to Iowa this winter... I'm thinking a long weekend in March or April?

April weekends

I just solidified plans for this weekend today when it hit me: my April weekends are all over the place, and well so very me. Keeping with my new reality of being around Dubuque much more often than I have in the past, I'll be here for 3 of the 4 weekends. Ok, and by here I mean mostly here. I'll explain below. April 6-7 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival --I went to the festival last year with Gretchen. We had so much fun! We ended up seeing a different set of films than we originally thought, but it was still a blast. --Weekly Wrap Up--

Media/fashion round up of my week TV: One issue with being a fan of a British TV show? Having to avoid spoilers until you can find a copy of it online to watch. Thankfully a twitter acquaintance posted a link to Matt Smith's debut episode of Doctor Who. I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy the show without the darling David Tennant, but it was ok. I still enjoyed it. He's no David Tennant, but I'll definitely still watch. I love the cheeky humor. I also watched the first 8 episodes of season 2 of Veronica Mars while cleaning. Is there a better way to clean? Books: I finally got around to reading "If I Stay" by Gayle Forman. It's amazing. I got quite sucked in to the book. It had me sobbing by the end. I really appreciate books that can tell a story so well that I'm emotionally tied to the characters. If you haven't read it or are not a YA reader, you should pick it up. It's about a 17-year old girl who has a major decision to make about life. I...

Booklist

I found this in my RSS feed this morning and thought it was a nice way to start the day. It is a list created by the National Endowment for the Arts, and a blogger writes that they claim most American adults have read only six of these hundred books. I've read 23, but about half have been for school; however, some of those I chose to read for a class assignment. :) Here’s what you do: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE.
