Knitting in class and other musings from the week

So I want to sit in class and write blog posts in my notebook during class. Not cool I know. That's the small college experience for you. You're supposed to pay attention when there are only 20 people in class. Especially when it's a guest speaker. But it's dull. However, at least it looks like I'm paying attention and taking notes. A classmate is knitting in the front row. That really bothers me. You're obviously not paying attention, and now the clickety clack of your knitting needles would be keeping me from paying attention, if I were actually trying to.
Also, it's presentations like this that make me feel confident about my own presentation skills. Also a friend today told me I have a good phone voice. I wonder what she means by that. I don't have an overly annoying voice? Makes me think back to voice lessons and my prof really wanting me to alter my speaking voice because I was 'damaging' my vocal cords. I'm glad I refused at the time. I like my speaking voice. It's not like it's uber unique or anything but not your typical girly voice. I can totally understand why I should change if I were actually planning on really focusing on singing, but since it's a hobby not a career, I'm not so concerned.

  1. I wonder what you post will be about this week... how long discussing 10 articles maybe 3 or 4 people actually read takes? Its a thought. :)

  2. Do you really think that 3 or 4 people are still actually reading the articles? HA! I might skim the titles or abstracts if I can open them electronically somewhere, but that's my contribution. :)

April weekends

I just solidified plans for this weekend today when it hit me: my April weekends are all over the place, and well so very me. Keeping with my new reality of being around Dubuque much more often than I have in the past, I'll be here for 3 of the 4 weekends. Ok, and by here I mean mostly here. I'll explain below. April 6-7 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival --I went to the festival last year with Gretchen. We had so much fun! We ended up seeing a different set of films than we originally thought, but it was still a blast. I was lucky enough to attend the Beloit International Film Festival with Kyle and his family last month, and this year he's coming down to spend the weekend watching films with me. Plus Nicole will be around for the weekend so she's coming along too! April 13-14 Twins game with Amy--We've got tickets to the Twins-Mets game on Sunday so I'll be driving back up to The Cities (I was just there over St. Patrick's Day weekend). I have...

About me

I feel like it's only fair I do a little bit of an intro for my new BEDA buddies: Christina , Autumn , and Nicola . For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, a bunch (read over 200) of us participating in Blog Every Day in April signed up to have Maureen Johnson (the Churchill of BEDA as Alex Day called her) to match us up with BEDA buddies for moral support for the rest of the month. What we do with these buddies is up to us. I'm not quite sure yet what we'll do, if anything other than comment on each other's blogs. But I feel like I do the least on my blog to give an idea of who I am. So this post is hoping to rectify that. So here goes! I'm a midwestern born and bred. At 24, I've never lived more than 200 miles (a 3 hour drive) from the city I was born in. However, my parents threw us in the van and took us on driving vacations all over the country, where I fell in love with history and roadtrips. These two loves served me well in colleg...

Booklist

I found this in my RSS feed this morning and thought it was a nice way to start the day. It is a list created by the National Endowment for the Arts, and a blogger writes that they claim most American adults have read only six of these hundred books. I've read 23, but about half have been for school; however, some of those I chose to read for a class assignment. :) Here’s what you do: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. (Or in my case turn them green.) 4) Reprint this list on your own blog. 1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen 2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien 3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling 5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 6 The Bible (um, how many people have actually sat down to read the Bible? Like, straight through? I'm counting it because I read at least a chapter every night.) 7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte (I own it, but haven't read ...
