Things I love Thursday

It’s that time again. Yay for Thursdays! Some days I miss blogging everyday, and then I remember how crazy that was. And time consuming. Wow did that take a lot of time planning and then writing or creating a blog for that day. But I’m glad I’m into a rhythm on here and doing at least one post a week.

• hanging out with friends this weekend: I got a chance to hang out with Megan at her apartment with her puppy Bella. Bella is a bit of a handful, but she was adorable none the less. Later that night I went to a concert on the river with Adam. I love the amphitheatre here. I've seen a few things there now and it's a really smart little space. Built into the hill behind an old brewery, the amphitheatre is situated between the river and a beautiful brick backdrop. It was fun to hang out with Adam and enjoy the bands. Some for the music, some for their humor. ;)
• church on Sunday: I've been bouncing around churches in Dubuque since I got here. I know more people at one across town, but I've been drawn to the music of one closer to me. I still hadn't totally decided last week, but after mass Sunday, I think I've finally got the message. Two weeks ago I giggled when I realized there was a bassoon player. Not a bassoon with other instruments. Just a piano, a bassoon, and a singer. Bassoons will always remind me of my friend Katie. This weekend, no bassoon, but during the recessional hymn, they pulled out a tamborine and the congregation broke out into clapping. And if you know me from my Madison days, you know how absolutely funny that is. This was the goal of my co-director Kelly that I attempted to squash. I think those two things are a message to me. This one is the church :)
• Death Cab for Cutie: Gretchen got me thinking about them again after sending me one of their songs off a compilation for my mix. I hadn't listened to a lot of DCFC, but it got me curious. I'm a fan of Dave's cover of I'll Follow You Into the Dark, and I'd totally forgotten that the theme song for Brotherhood 2.0 was Brothers on a Hotel Bed. I also really like Someday You Will Be Loved. Yay for finding new music to love.
• getting twitter updates from Nicola at Comic-Con: how fun would it be to attend Comic-Con? I loved getting to live vicariously thru Nicola this week!
• Memoir Mondays: I mentioned a while (almost 2 months) ago about writing up my college memoirs before I forgot them. I started one story, but I can already see how I'll just drag my feet on them without a little push. Taking inspiration from Autumn's lead, I'm going to public challenge myself to post one each Monday on Life on the Hilltop, the blog I set up for the project. I'll probably post them here too, or at least set up a post and link them from here. Maybe I'll give a little bit of background to the stories or something from this blog as some of you are not a graduate of my crazy alma mater and might need a few definitions and descriptions of things. We'll see. Next Monday will be the first story about "76 Steps," a weekly newsletter my friend and I edited.

Ok, that was a long post. Hope your week has been good. Leave me a comment here if you haven't before. I'm curious to see who's reading this blog and how much background some of you will need ;) Also, I want to make this a collaborative project so if any of you fellow Cornellians out there would like to write up a memory/story from college let me know. I've got the blog set up to be unsearchable by Google, so we'll have to pass along the URL to people. I don't want to lock it because I think some of our post-Cornell friends would like it, but I'm not ready for people to find it in their college searches! Let me know what you think.
