TILT-Old school text edition

Hiya! I'm writing the blog instead of videoing it tonight for a few reasons. It's shorter, less work, and I look awful curled up on the couch with my blanket and my hoodie. So text it is. :)
  • Spending Sunday afternoon with Kyle- I forgot how much I enjoy showing off the city and the college. We spent time downtown, and rode up the Fenelon Place Elevator. Despite living here for over a year, I had yet to actually ride it. I also showed off the library (and where they filmed Field of Dreams) and the campus. I miss seeing Kyle. Seeing your high school best friend once very 2 years is just not good enough.
The view from the top of the bluff!

  • RENT!!- The RENT tickets have arrived!! Autumn and I are going to see RENT in Des Moines in Nov. It's the tour with 2 original cast members (Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal). I'm so stoked. I've never seen the show on stage, but I'm obsessed with the soundtrack! And to think this is all a result of Maureen Johnson's BEDA Buddies!
  • Rearranging my living room- I decided while I was cleaning to rearrange the front room. I got that habit from Amy. It's always nice to look at things a little differently. The new look!

  • And I think that's honestly it. It's been a pretty calm week. A nice weekend of cleaning and friends, followed by a decently easy week of teaching. Tomorrow will be insane (12 library sessions scheduled), and this weekend is Homecoming both here and at Cornell. It's going to be fabulous!! And Gretchen is going to be here with me!

  1. You'll love seeing Rent. I've seen it twice 'though it's been a long time. I didn't know original cast members were touring now. That would be amazing. Have a great time!

  3. Yay for Rent! I can't wait as I have never seen it live, nor have I ever seen you. Doubly good. We have to cement our plans one of these days. Woohoo for the coming month.

April weekends

I just solidified plans for this weekend today when it hit me: my April weekends are all over the place, and well so very me. Keeping with my new reality of being around Dubuque much more often than I have in the past, I'll be here for 3 of the 4 weekends. Ok, and by here I mean mostly here. I'll explain below. April 6-7 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival --I went to the festival last year with Gretchen. We had so much fun! We ended up seeing a different set of films than we originally thought, but it was still a blast. I was lucky enough to attend the Beloit International Film Festival with Kyle and his family last month, and this year he's coming down to spend the weekend watching films with me. Plus Nicole will be around for the weekend so she's coming along too! April 13-14 Twins game with Amy--We've got tickets to the Twins-Mets game on Sunday so I'll be driving back up to The Cities (I was just there over St. Patrick's Day weekend). I have...

About me

I feel like it's only fair I do a little bit of an intro for my new BEDA buddies: Christina , Autumn , and Nicola . For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, a bunch (read over 200) of us participating in Blog Every Day in April signed up to have Maureen Johnson (the Churchill of BEDA as Alex Day called her) to match us up with BEDA buddies for moral support for the rest of the month. What we do with these buddies is up to us. I'm not quite sure yet what we'll do, if anything other than comment on each other's blogs. But I feel like I do the least on my blog to give an idea of who I am. So this post is hoping to rectify that. So here goes! I'm a midwestern born and bred. At 24, I've never lived more than 200 miles (a 3 hour drive) from the city I was born in. However, my parents threw us in the van and took us on driving vacations all over the country, where I fell in love with history and roadtrips. These two loves served me well in colleg...

Booklist

I found this in my RSS feed this morning and thought it was a nice way to start the day. It is a list created by the National Endowment for the Arts, and a blogger writes that they claim most American adults have read only six of these hundred books. I've read 23, but about half have been for school; however, some of those I chose to read for a class assignment. :) Here’s what you do: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. (Or in my case turn them green.) 4) Reprint this list on your own blog. 1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen 2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien 3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling 5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 6 The Bible (um, how many people have actually sat down to read the Bible? Like, straight through? I'm counting it because I read at least a chapter every night.) 7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte (I own it, but haven't read ...
