Quirky movies

One of the reasons I decided to watch more movies this year was because there were so many that I hadn't seen. Or in the case this week, ones I had abandoned the first time.

I'll be honest. I have a bit of a weird taste in movies. My viewing list for the year so far is probably already evidence enough for some of you.

These past 2 weeks I've indulged in my quirky movie love watching Wild Target and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

First Wild Target comes with an admission. I found this film at my library after searching our catalog for Martin Freeman. I'm more than a little in love with the BBC's modern version of Sherlock.  When I saw who else was in it, I just had to watch it. It was funny and odd, and so very British. Each on their own the actors are fun; together, they are a hoot. Not my favorite movie of all time, but I was glad I watched.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was one of those movies I was convinced I would love when it came out. And then I borrowed it on DVD, watched about 10 minutes of it, thought it was weird and turned it off. Fast forward to today. I decide I'm going to go back and give it another attempt. Much better this time around. I was in a much better mood to be watching it. I needed something a little melancholy and thinky. It's still weird, but in a way I can actually appreciate this time. Though I do have to admit, it sort of makes me want to die my hair blue now. Which we all know is a bad idea. :)

I just solidified plans for this weekend today when it hit me: my April weekends are all over the place, and well so very me. Keeping with my new reality of being around Dubuque much more often than I have in the past, I'll be here for 3 of the 4 weekends. Ok, and by here I mean mostly here. I'll explain below. April 6-7 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival --I went to the festival last year with Gretchen. We had so much fun! We ended up seeing a different set of films than we originally thought, but it was still a blast. I feel like it's only fair I do a little bit of an intro for my new BEDA buddies: Christina , Autumn , and Nicola . For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, a bunch (read over 200) of us participating in Blog Every Day in April signed up to have Maureen Johnson (the Churchill of BEDA as Alex Day called her) to match us up with BEDA buddies for moral support for the rest of the month. What we do with these buddies is up to us. I'm not quite sure yet what we'll do, if anything other than comment on each other's blogs. But I feel like I do the least on my blog to give an idea of who I am. So this post is hoping to rectify that. So here goes! I'm a midwestern born and bred. Booklist

I found this in my RSS feed this morning and thought it was a nice way to start the day. It is a list created by the National Endowment for the Arts, and a blogger writes that they claim most American adults have read only six of these hundred books. I've read 23, but about half have been for school; however, some of those I chose to read for a class assignment. :) Here’s what you do: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE.
