Things I Love Thursday

I've got all sorts of things to love this week!

  • euchre night- Last Saturday a bunch of us got together and played euchre and ate vegetarian food. Tres fun. Homemade pizza, salad, spicy cheese bread, brownies, and kolatches. There was some euchre playing, and those of us off the table played cribbage. Well I taught cribbage to those who didn't know. :)
  • new Sunday routines- Last weekend I spent an hour at my fave independent coffee shop in Dubuque. Ok, my favorite that is open on Sundays. I've got 2 faves I flip back and forth between. Anyway, one hour writing at the coffee shop and an hour out at the park on the Mississippi. I was so productive and enjoyed it so much, I decided to do it again this weekend. I was rewarded with a familiar face behind the counter. I learned Saturday night (at euchre night) that I happened to know the son of the owners and that he was covering for his brother Sunday morning. I'll miss it this weekend thanks to something further down the list.
  • visiting friends- I'm headed to Omaha this weekend to visit friends. It's a little early for our annual Omaha get together, but Justin's leaving the country for a while, so desperate times call for kicking up the trip a few months. Tomorrow is going to me mostly car ride for me (about 7 1/2 hours) but my friends are so worth it! Here are two of the pics from last year's trip.   • USA Network- I'm rather addicted to 4 shows on USA right now. I'm sure you've probably heard I'm a huge Psych fan, and have been since it started. I added White Collar when it started this fall. Recently I watched all of the old episodes of Royal Pains when I was home one weekend. Getting caught up wasn't hard since there was only like 17 total episodes. And then Covert Affairs started last week. I love the funny repartee the characters have with each other. There is a lead pair in each show and I love to see them work together, whether they're BFF, siblings, new coworkers, or the unlikely pair. Fresh, funny, and have odd seasons when nothing else new is on. Love it! Go find them on Hulu if you haven't already!!
  • Lifeinaday- I came across this really cool project on YouTube, the goal is to capture one day, Saturday July 24, 2010 all across the globe and make a kind of video time capsule style documentary that will premiere at Sundance. And you can be a part of it. Just go check out the short video on the YouTube page. All you have to do is film part of your day on Saturday and upload it on their site. I plan on it. You should too!
  • Amy- she sent me an e-card equating our friendship to donuts. I love her for a million reasons, but this week I especially love her for that.
This is up late due to storm warnings here all night. I might find the time to update from Omaha, but it's unlikely, so I'll probably see you again Monday night. :)

April weekends

I just solidified plans for this weekend today when it hit me: my April weekends are all over the place, and well so very me. Keeping with my new reality of being around Dubuque much more often than I have in the past, I'll be here for 3 of the 4 weekends. Ok, and by here I mean mostly here. I'll explain below. April 6-7 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival --I went to the festival last year with Gretchen. We had so much fun! We ended up seeing a different set of films than we originally thought, but it was still a blast. I was lucky enough to attend the Beloit International Film Festival with Kyle and his family last month, and this year he's coming down to spend the weekend watching films with me. Plus Nicole will be around for the weekend so she's coming along too! --Weekly Wrap Up--

Media/fashion round up of my week TV: One issue with being a fan of a British TV show? Having to avoid spoilers until you can find a copy of it online to watch. Thankfully a twitter acquaintance posted a link to Matt Smith's debut episode of Doctor Who. I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy the show without the darling David Tennant, but it was ok. I still enjoyed it. He's no David Tennant, but I'll definitely still watch. I love the cheeky humor. I also watched the first 8 episodes of season 2 of Veronica Mars while cleaning. Is there a better way to clean? Books: I finally got around to reading "If I Stay" by Gayle Forman. It's amazing. I got quite sucked in to the book. It had me sobbing by the end. I really appreciate books that can tell a story so well that I'm emotionally tied to the characters. If you haven't read it or are not a YA reader, you should pick it up. It's about a 17-year old girl who has a major decision to make about life. I...

Booklist

I found this in my RSS feed this morning and thought it was a nice way to start the day. It is a list created by the National Endowment for the Arts, and a blogger writes that they claim most American adults have read only six of these hundred books. I've read 23, but about half have been for school; however, some of those I chose to read for a class assignment. :) Here’s what you do: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE.
