Roadtrips and mixtapes

I've got these conferences coming up mid-March that happen to be on back to back days, which means lots of road time for me. I'll be in my car for approximately 14 hours to, from, and in between conferences. Normally I'd throw my Blue Skies albums on repeat or find an audiobook to listen to. However reading Amy and Roger's Epic Detour got me wanting to create a bunch of playlist/mixes myself. (I don't have an ipod to radio adapter, so I'll be old-schooling it with burned cds.) And I need your help with ideas.

The first mix is pretty well set. I went with ever-obvious, but always-entertaining "friend" mix. Basically just a mix of songs with the word friend in the title. A nice mix of musicals, pop, and indie stuff.
  • We used to be friends---The Dandy Warhols
  • I think my girlfriend's been cheating on me--Blue Skies
  • I will be your friend--Amy Grant
  • Friend is a 4-letter word--Cake
  • Friend like me--Aladdin
  • Friend like you--Joshua Radin
  • My friends--Sweeney Todd
  • Dead boy's girlfriend--Hank Green
  • With a little help from my friends--Across the Universe
  • You've got a friend in me--Toy Story
  • My girlfriend who live in Canada--Avenue Q
  • Friends of the Ood--Chameleon Circuit
  • Just Friends--Gavin DeGraw
  • My boyfriend's back--Jersey Boys
  • You're my best friend--Queen
So what I'm looking from you are suggestions. I want to do a cd of my friends' favorite sing-along songs. Whether those be in the car, in the shower, while on stage...whatever. I'll also be doing a Broadway mix, and a reminiscing one. Any other ideas for themes?? Put them all here:

Don't worry if I don't have a song. I'll find a way to get it or purchase it if necessary. Can't wait to pull this all together!

April weekends

I just solidified plans for this weekend today when it hit me: my April weekends are all over the place, and well so very me. Keeping with my new reality of being around Dubuque much more often than I have in the past, I'll be here for 3 of the 4 weekends. Ok, and by here I mean mostly here. I'll explain below. April 6-7 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival --I went to the festival last year with Gretchen. We had so much fun! We ended up seeing a different set of films than we originally thought, but it was still a blast. I was lucky enough to attend the Beloit International Film Festival with Kyle and his family last month, and this year he's coming down to spend the weekend watching films with me. Plus Nicole will be around for the weekend so she's coming along too! April 13-14 Twins game with Amy--We've got tickets to the Twins-Mets game on Sunday so I'll be driving back up to The Cities (I was just there over St. Patrick's Day weekend). I have...

About me

I feel like it's only fair I do a little bit of an intro for my new BEDA buddies: Christina , Autumn , and Nicola . For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, a bunch (read over 200) of us participating in Blog Every Day in April signed up to have Maureen Johnson (the Churchill of BEDA as Alex Day called her) to match us up with BEDA buddies for moral support for the rest of the month. What we do with these buddies is up to us. I'm not quite sure yet what we'll do, if anything other than comment on each other's blogs. But I feel like I do the least on my blog to give an idea of who I am. So this post is hoping to rectify that. So here goes! I'm a midwestern born and bred. At 24, I've never lived more than 200 miles (a 3 hour drive) from the city I was born in. However, my parents threw us in the van and took us on driving vacations all over the country, where I fell in love with history and roadtrips. These two loves served me well in colleg...

Booklist

I found this in my RSS feed this morning and thought it was a nice way to start the day. It is a list created by the National Endowment for the Arts, and a blogger writes that they claim most American adults have read only six of these hundred books. I've read 23, but about half have been for school; however, some of those I chose to read for a class assignment. :) Here’s what you do: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. (Or in my case turn them green.) 4) Reprint this list on your own blog. 1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen 2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien 3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling 5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 6 The Bible (um, how many people have actually sat down to read the Bible? Like, straight through? I'm counting it because I read at least a chapter every night.) 7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte (I own it, but haven't read ...
