Stormy Weather

I couldn't possibly blog about anything other than weather tonight. It's weird to open your local news website to see the phrase "life-threatening" in the weather forecast. Not really what I was hoping for. High winds, hail, possible tornadoes. I was trying to figure out a plan for the night since I have a second floor apartment with large northwest facing windows. Normally I'd hike it over to my great aunt and uncle's across town and crash in their basement. Just as I was contemplating calling them, my mom calls. She's asking for weather updates and whether or not the guys have time to get a round of golf in before it hits. They're just getting back from a vacation with my aunt and uncle. I tell them what it looks like and ask if I can just crash with them. So that's how I ended up a 20 minute drive south of my place where my car is in the machine shed safe from any hail. I've been keeping my eye on the radar all night. So far it's all rain and lightning, but I'm glad to be here. I know if I'd been back at home I wouldn't have slept well at all. Here at least I stand a chance.

April weekends

I just solidified plans for this weekend today when it hit me: my April weekends are all over the place, and well so very me. Keeping with my new reality of being around Dubuque much more often than I have in the past, I'll be here for 3 of the 4 weekends. Ok, and by here I mean mostly here. I'll explain below. April 6-7 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival --I went to the festival last year with Gretchen. We had so much fun! We ended up seeing a different set of films than we originally thought, but it was still a blast. Plus Nicole will be around for the weekend so she's coming along too! I feel like it's only fair I do a little bit of an intro for my new BEDA buddies: Christina , Autumn , and Nicola . For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, a bunch (read over 200) of us participating in Blog Every Day in April signed up to have Maureen Johnson (the Churchill of BEDA as Alex Day called her) to match us up with BEDA buddies for moral support for the rest of the month. What we do with these buddies is up to us. I'm not quite sure yet what we'll do, if anything other than comment on each other's blogs. But I feel like I do the least on my blog to give an idea of who I am. So this post is hoping to rectify that. So here goes! I'm a midwestern born and bred. At 24, I've never lived more than 200 miles (a 3 hour drive) from the city I was born in. Booklist

I found this in my RSS feed this morning and thought it was a nice way to start the day. It is a list created by the National Endowment for the Arts, and a blogger writes that they claim most American adults have read only six of these hundred books. I've read 23, but about half have been for school; however, some of those I chose to read for a class assignment. :) Here’s what you do: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE.
