One of those weeks

Ever have one of those weeks where you feel like you're running in place? That has been the epitome of my week. I've been trying to get a class I'm teaching next week prepped since Monday. It's Friday, and I'm still not entirely done. I knew that I had things scheduled Tuesday-Thursday. Monday I got some stuff done. And then I got lucky, my schedule cleared out a little as things got canceled. But tasks and problems and meetings and parties just popped up to take over.

And somehow I find myself decently prepped for one class, but now I have homework to complete for an online course I'm co-developing for the summer. I don't know how I'm going to cope these first few weeks of the semester. I feel like I'm basically taking an online class, teaching one, developing another, trying to pull together a presentation proposal, oh, and dealing with everything else (i.e. daily grind stuff) at work including 1200 students returning. No big deal. Plus the crazy cold weather and multiple inches of snow we seem to be getting at once here. At least last winter the deal was either bitter cold or snow, not both in the same storm.

I'm just feeling a little overwhelmed right now. I know that I'll find a way to make it all work, and once I get back in the groove of teaching I'll love it again. The beginning of the semester is always hectic (she says as if 3 semesters is enough for proof of concept), but this semester seems worse that before. It'll be character building and great for professional development. We'll just see how great it is for my sanity!

April weekends

I just solidified plans for this weekend today when it hit me: my April weekends are all over the place, and well so very me. Keeping with my new reality of being around Dubuque much more often than I have in the past, I'll be here for 3 of the 4 weekends. Ok, and by here I mean mostly here. I'll explain below. April 6-7 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival --I went to the festival last year with Gretchen. We had so much fun! We ended up seeing a different set of films than we originally thought, but it was still a blast. I was lucky enough to attend the Beloit International Film Festival with Kyle and his family last month, and this year he's coming down to spend the weekend watching films with me. Plus Nicole will be around for the weekend so she's coming along too! April 13-14 Twins game with Amy--We've got tickets to the Twins-Mets game on Sunday so I'll be driving back up to The Cities (I was just there over St. Patrick's Day weekend). I have...

About me

I feel like it's only fair I do a little bit of an intro for my new BEDA buddies: Christina , Autumn , and Nicola . For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, a bunch (read over 200) of us participating in Blog Every Day in April signed up to have Maureen Johnson (the Churchill of BEDA as Alex Day called her) to match us up with BEDA buddies for moral support for the rest of the month. What we do with these buddies is up to us. I'm not quite sure yet what we'll do, if anything other than comment on each other's blogs. But I feel like I do the least on my blog to give an idea of who I am. So this post is hoping to rectify that. So here goes! I'm a midwestern born and bred. At 24, I've never lived more than 200 miles (a 3 hour drive) from the city I was born in. However, my parents threw us in the van and took us on driving vacations all over the country, where I fell in love with history and roadtrips. These two loves served me well in colleg...

Booklist

I found this in my RSS feed this morning and thought it was a nice way to start the day. It is a list created by the National Endowment for the Arts, and a blogger writes that they claim most American adults have read only six of these hundred books. I've read 23, but about half have been for school; however, some of those I chose to read for a class assignment. :) Here’s what you do: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. (Or in my case turn them green.) 4) Reprint this list on your own blog. 1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen 2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien 3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling 5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 6 The Bible (um, how many people have actually sat down to read the Bible? Like, straight through? I'm counting it because I read at least a chapter every night.) 7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte (I own it, but haven't read ...
