Things I love Thursday--Saturday edition

Hey remember when I said I'd get out of my habit of blogging at the end of the week? Yeah, me neither.

  • Athenian Grill--A cute little restaurant a few blocks from where I live. I don't frequent it often, mostly because I feel like once I get in the habit of going there I'll be there all the time. However, early this week thanks to my broken car, I was without groceries or any good way to get them. So off to the restaurant it was. It's under new ownership. The older gentleman behind the desk was adorable and sweet. (He gave me free chicken noodle soup because he liked my laugh!) And the food was a good as I remembered it.
  • reconnecting with old friends--I have quite a few people I'd call friends that I don't communicate with on a super regular basis. Two of those people contacted me this week and we had a nice chat. That is always a great way to make me smile.
  • watching Manda graduate!!--I got to see my little sissy graduate with her master's degree this last weekend. So proud of my little sister. :)
  • helping a friend plant a garden--I spent Wednesday night at Lindsey's helping her plant her garden. There was some alcohol before and after, and much sarcasm and wit in between. We had a lot of fun ignoring all the planting directions. Nothing needs to be planted in rows 36 inches apart. Nothing. :)
  • watching The Doctor's Wife episode--I love Doctor Who. I tend to adore Neil Gaiman. So a Gaiman written episode of Doctor Who is pretty high up on the lists of things Becky will LOVE. And boy was it ever. Brilliant funny, and poignant, and superbly acted. I cannot wait to see where the rest of this season leads us.
  • Castle finale--Not what I saw coming at all. I didn't miss much television when I took a hiatus over Lent, but Castle was one show I missed. Bones is another. I haven't yet watched that finale, so don't spoil it!

April weekends

I just solidified plans for this weekend today when it hit me: my April weekends are all over the place, and well so very me. Keeping with my new reality of being around Dubuque much more often than I have in the past, I'll be here for 3 of the 4 weekends. Ok, and by here I mean mostly here. I'll explain below. April 6-7 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival --I went to the festival last year with Gretchen. We had so much fun! We ended up seeing a different set of films than we originally thought, but it was still a blast. I was lucky enough to attend the Beloit International Film Festival with Kyle and his family last month, and this year he's coming down to spend the weekend watching films with me. Plus Nicole will be around for the weekend so she's coming along too! April 13-14 Twins game with Amy--We've got tickets to the Twins-Mets game on Sunday so I'll be driving back up to The Cities (I was just there over St. Patrick's Day weekend). I have...

About me

I feel like it's only fair I do a little bit of an intro for my new BEDA buddies: Christina , Autumn , and Nicola . For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, a bunch (read over 200) of us participating in Blog Every Day in April signed up to have Maureen Johnson (the Churchill of BEDA as Alex Day called her) to match us up with BEDA buddies for moral support for the rest of the month. What we do with these buddies is up to us. I'm not quite sure yet what we'll do, if anything other than comment on each other's blogs. But I feel like I do the least on my blog to give an idea of who I am. So this post is hoping to rectify that. So here goes! I'm a midwestern born and bred. At 24, I've never lived more than 200 miles (a 3 hour drive) from the city I was born in. However, my parents threw us in the van and took us on driving vacations all over the country, where I fell in love with history and roadtrips. These two loves served me well in colleg...

Booklist

I found this in my RSS feed this morning and thought it was a nice way to start the day. It is a list created by the National Endowment for the Arts, and a blogger writes that they claim most American adults have read only six of these hundred books. I've read 23, but about half have been for school; however, some of those I chose to read for a class assignment. :) Here’s what you do: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. (Or in my case turn them green.) 4) Reprint this list on your own blog. 1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen 2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien 3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling 5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 6 The Bible (um, how many people have actually sat down to read the Bible? Like, straight through? I'm counting it because I read at least a chapter every night.) 7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte (I own it, but haven't read ...
