Dream Vacation

Right now? Anyplace where I can be reading the stack of addictive books I have waiting for me. I'll be honest I'm on page 121 of City of Fallen Angels (thanks Autumn..you really are an enabler!) and I had to tear myself away from it with a promise of ice cream just to write this. Now before you get all "omg she's gonna go all librarian on us," just hold on. This not going to be one of those reading books takes you to another world lectures. I'm not that kind of librarian. So without further adieu, some of the many dream vacations I've imagined in my head.

  • visiting London to attend Summer in the City--Basically it's an event where a bunch of my fave YouTubers  get together to hang out, play scavenger hunt games through out the city, play kickass concert, and just generally be awesome. Have I mentioned it's in London? And my fave singer happens to organize it? Right. Duh.
  • Going to VidCon--Basically Summer in the City on a bigger and more professional scale, oh and in the US. And John and Hank Green are there. And Wheezy Waiter. And Phil DeFranco. And a freaking ball pit. And concerts. And dance parties. And if you haven't figured out yet that I'm a YouTube geek...well where have you been for the last 3 years?
  • Seeing a Grand Slam event--Preferibly any of them that isn't the French Open. The US Open is electric, the Australian is hot, but the fans are freaking fantastic down there, and Wimbledon? Wimbledon will always be epic. So. In addition to being a YouTube geek...I'm also a hardcore tennis fan. *shakes head* This is getting awkward for you isn't it?
  • The Olympics--Like in 2012 in London so I can combine with the first and third bullet points maybe? That'd be convenient! And lovely. And super nerdy.
  • Washington D.C.--Despite having been there 5 times. (Yep, still a geek!) There are so many things there I haven't seen. Supreme Court. National Archives. The Library of Congress. Yeah, yeah, I know...ironic right?
  • traveling to a foreign county with a friend who's been there--Especially one's where I don't speak the language. To Spain with Gretchen. Or France with Amelia or Emily (or Amelia AND Emily). Or China with Justin. Or Australia with Kyle. (Ok so that one doesn't quite follow the pattern.) Or to the UK/Scotland with Christina and Autumn to visit Nicola!!
  • NYC to see Broadway shows--Unlimited budget to see all the Broadway shows I could stomach?? Count me in. Crap falling back into geeky aren't I?
  • basically anywhere with my friends--Sentimental but true. I love to visit friends. Whether that means I vacation in the Twin Cities, or St. Louis, or Clear Lake, or Rhinelander, I'll take it. Geeky and sentimental. Damn. You've got me.
And on that note I hear hot boys and warrior girls calling to me from City of Fallen Angels. Oh and ice cream! Peace out.

  3. Those all sound pretty great to me. The problem with the Broadway one is that sometimes the pickings are pretty slim. There are several coming up though that I would go to on an unlimited budget.

And don't spoil anything in CoFA for me! (You would never though, I know this)

  4. Please visit! Haha. I love that so many of these revolve around big events (particularly YouTube ones).

April weekends

I just solidified plans for this weekend today when it hit me: my April weekends are all over the place, and well so very me. Keeping with my new reality of being around Dubuque much more often than I have in the past, I'll be here for 3 of the 4 weekends. Ok, and by here I mean mostly here. I'll explain below. April 6-7 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival --I went to the festival last year with Gretchen. We had so much fun! We ended up seeing a different set of films than we originally thought, but it was still a blast. I was lucky enough to attend the Beloit International Film Festival with Kyle and his family last month, and this year he's coming down to spend the weekend watching films with me. Plus Nicole will be around for the weekend so she's coming along too! April 13-14 Twins game with Amy--We've got tickets to the Twins-Mets game on Sunday so I'll be driving back up to The Cities (I was just there over St. Patrick's Day weekend). I have...

About me

I feel like it's only fair I do a little bit of an intro for my new BEDA buddies: Christina , Autumn , and Nicola . For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, a bunch (read over 200) of us participating in Blog Every Day in April signed up to have Maureen Johnson (the Churchill of BEDA as Alex Day called her) to match us up with BEDA buddies for moral support for the rest of the month. What we do with these buddies is up to us. I'm not quite sure yet what we'll do, if anything other than comment on each other's blogs. But I feel like I do the least on my blog to give an idea of who I am. So this post is hoping to rectify that. So here goes! I'm a midwestern born and bred. At 24, I've never lived more than 200 miles (a 3 hour drive) from the city I was born in. However, my parents threw us in the van and took us on driving vacations all over the country, where I fell in love with history and roadtrips. These two loves served me well in colleg...

Booklist

I found this in my RSS feed this morning and thought it was a nice way to start the day. It is a list created by the National Endowment for the Arts, and a blogger writes that they claim most American adults have read only six of these hundred books. I've read 23, but about half have been for school; however, some of those I chose to read for a class assignment. :) Here’s what you do: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. (Or in my case turn them green.) 4) Reprint this list on your own blog. 1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen 2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien 3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling 5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 6 The Bible (um, how many people have actually sat down to read the Bible? Like, straight through? I'm counting it because I read at least a chapter every night.) 7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte (I own it, but haven't read ...
