Things I Love Thursday!

So many things to love this week.
  • job interviews--No, not for me. Cara and Manda snagged interviews this week. Job searching is not fun, so getting past the first step is always a good sign :)
  • writing community--I got involved in the local writer's guild. Every Friday a fellow faculty member and friend hosts writer's gym (writing is like working out, easier to do with a pal and if you do it at designated times). Last week it was just Lauren and I, but I got some things knocked out. And I never leave on time. It always devolves into crazy story telling. This time with her sister.
  • the student org I advise--The ladies (and the guys of their brother org) continually amaze me. Sometimes they stress me out, but they make the 12 hour days I sometimes pull worth it. They wrote and performed a great skit for domestic abuse awareness this week. And pulled off a great movie night for local families this weekend. 
  • Sunday morning coffee shop writing--There is only one coffee shop (not a cafe or breakfast place) open on Sunday mornings in my city. I love this coffee shop. It was my summer haunt. And since I've gotten back into my Sunday morning writing, I'm back sitting there with my hazelnut latte scribbling away in my notebook or typing away on my laptop.
  • visiting Cornell--I'm spending Friday and Saturday in Mount Vernon at Cornell. (My alma mater for those who don't know.) There's just something about Cornell people. They are just good for the soul. I haven't seen Katie since I hosted a bunch of Cornell ladies last spring. And I get to see Sarah again. And another alum friend I haven't seen since she graduated in 2005. I'm also really excited to see my advisor and the dean that was my student org advisor. 
Other things I loved: baking bread (to bring with me this weekend), cranberry scones, getting Diana hooked on vlogbrothers videos, getting City of Fallen Angels (thanks Autumn!!), email responses 7 months late

April weekends

I just solidified plans for this weekend today when it hit me: my April weekends are all over the place, and well so very me. Keeping with my new reality of being around Dubuque much more often than I have in the past, I'll be here for 3 of the 4 weekends. Ok, and by here I mean mostly here. I'll explain below. April 6-7 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival --I went to the festival last year with Gretchen. We had so much fun! We ended up seeing a different set of films than we originally thought, but it was still a blast. I was lucky enough to attend the Beloit International Film Festival with Kyle and his family last month, and this year he's coming down to spend the weekend watching films with me. Plus Nicole will be around for the weekend so she's coming along too! April 13-14 Twins game with Amy--We've got tickets to the Twins-Mets game on Sunday so I'll be driving back up to The Cities (I was just there over St. Patrick's Day weekend). I have...

I feel like it's only fair I do a little bit of an intro for my new BEDA buddies: Christina , Autumn , and Nicola . For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, a bunch (read over 200) of us participating in Blog Every Day in April signed up to have Maureen Johnson (the Churchill of BEDA as Alex Day called her) to match us up with BEDA buddies for moral support for the rest of the month. What we do with these buddies is up to us. I'm not quite sure yet what we'll do, if anything other than comment on each other's blogs. But I feel like I do the least on my blog to give an idea of who I am. So this post is hoping to rectify that. So here goes! I'm a midwestern born and bred. At 24, I've never lived more than 200 miles (a 3 hour drive) from the city I was born in. Booklist

I found this in my RSS feed this morning and thought it was a nice way to start the day. It is a list created by the National Endowment for the Arts, and a blogger writes that they claim most American adults have read only six of these hundred books. I've read 23, but about half have been for school; however, some of those I chose to read for a class assignment. :) Here’s what you do: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE.
