One thing I realized that never came up is my odd taste in music and my music playing sensibilities. My taste in music isn't odd, so much as eclectic. For years, I was the biggest country music fan. I sort of abandoned this in college, but my music collection still has remnants of this. I'm also a Broadway musical fan. (Not quite like Autumn or my friend Emily). I've also come to love Christian rock groups like Switchfoot and Relient K thanks to Gretchen. Amy got me hooked on Matt Wertz and Dave Barnes, two guitar playing Christian solo artists. I love Josh Groban and John Meyer. Kelly Clarkson and Jaci Velasquez. High School Musical (all 3!) and the Jonas Brothers. Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees. Blue Skies and Chameleon Circuit.

Now that isn't the odd part. I know lots of people who have electic music tastes. In fact most of my friends do. I think the part where it gets weird is how I play music. I tend to get a one-track mind about music. When I'm around the apartment with my laptop, iTunes shuffle is fine. But most of my music consumption in the past 7 years has happened in my car or on my iPod/mp3 player/CD player (yep, I was that old school until 2006). Now I realize that a CD player doesn't easily lend itself to a rotation of a variety of music, but when I listen to music I get a bit obsessive. I go through phases as I like to call them. During a phase I only listen to that artist's music. Not too weird I guess, except when I tell you that means I can listen to the same CD over and over for like a month and never get bored with it. I was notorious for driving home from college (3 hour drive) and only listening to one CD on repeat. Most times I didn't even bother shuffling it. I'd do the same thing while studying/reading for class. I don't remember a time in during college where I was studying/reading and it wasn't Josh Groban/Gavin DeGraw/John Mayer in my cd player. Oddly, that's the only situational thing. Everything else, I just listen to that one album, or artist for that period. I do eventually get sick of it (usually about 3-5 weeks) and move on to someone else. Right now I'm in one of the longest phases I've ever been in. Since mid-January I've pretty much been listening almost exclusively to Blue Skies and DFTBA records artists. The Blue Skies video I linked above is my favorite original song of his. (It just came out today, but I love it! Probably where I should admit I've listened to it like 7 times today. See I told you I'm weird.) Despite having close to 8GB of music on my iPod, I really only listen to about 60 of those songs, all in the Nerdfighter genre. (If you don't know what Nerdfighters are...you should check out the vlogbrothers YouTube channel.) Can you listen to an album on repeat for weeks? Or is it just me? If you could only listen to one album or artist for the rest of your life who would it be? Leave your comments below!!

April weekends

I just solidified plans for this weekend today when it hit me: my April weekends are all over the place, and well so very me. Keeping with my new reality of being around Dubuque much more often than I have in the past, I'll be here for 3 of the 4 weekends. Ok, and by here I mean mostly here. I'll explain below. April 6-7 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival --I went to the festival last year with Gretchen. We had so much fun! We ended up seeing a different set of films than we originally thought, but it was still a blast. I was lucky enough to attend the Beloit International Film Festival with Kyle and his family last month, and this year he's coming down to spend the weekend watching films with me. Plus Nicole will be around for the weekend so she's coming along too! April 13-14 Twins game with Amy--We've got tickets to the Twins-Mets game on Sunday so I'll be driving back up to The Cities (I was just there over St. Patrick's Day weekend). I have...

About me

I feel like it's only fair I do a little bit of an intro for my new BEDA buddies: Christina , Autumn , and Nicola . For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, a bunch (read over 200) of us participating in Blog Every Day in April signed up to have Maureen Johnson (the Churchill of BEDA as Alex Day called her) to match us up with BEDA buddies for moral support for the rest of the month. What we do with these buddies is up to us. I'm not quite sure yet what we'll do, if anything other than comment on each other's blogs. But I feel like I do the least on my blog to give an idea of who I am. So this post is hoping to rectify that. So here goes! I'm a midwestern born and bred. At 24, I've never lived more than 200 miles (a 3 hour drive) from the city I was born in. However, my parents threw us in the van and took us on driving vacations all over the country, where I fell in love with history and roadtrips. These two loves served me well in colleg...

Booklist

I found this in my RSS feed this morning and thought it was a nice way to start the day. It is a list created by the National Endowment for the Arts, and a blogger writes that they claim most American adults have read only six of these hundred books. I've read 23, but about half have been for school; however, some of those I chose to read for a class assignment. :) Here’s what you do: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. (Or in my case turn them green.) 4) Reprint this list on your own blog. 1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen 2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien 3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling 5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 6 The Bible (um, how many people have actually sat down to read the Bible? Like, straight through? I'm counting it because I read at least a chapter every night.) 7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte (I own it, but haven't read ...
