Last BEDA blog

Wow! Where did the month go? I honestly can't believe it's over. I survived the BEDA challenge with 2 blogs. (The second is a collaborative blog I do with my friends called In Your Pants.) I'm not usually very good about finishing things I start. Take New Year's Resolutions. I've usually broken those by February.

I'm going to follow my BEDA buddies lead and end with a recap/what I've learned blog.
  • Maureen did an eerily good job matching up our group of BEDA buddies. I understand that we were bound to have things in common, but I honestly didn't think she'd do this well. I've really loved getting to know Nicola, Autumn, and Christina. I never really had solely online friends before, but this has gone so well so far! I'm really looking forward to our epic facebook conversation and continuing to read their blogs and keep in touch on twitter. Also, I loved getting to know Andrea, my unofficial BEDA buddy who found me from the official blogroll.
  • I really surprised myself in what I actually produced each day. I didn't exactly follow my creative content 6 out of 7 days a week like I planned, but I still managed to kick out an awful lot of stuff I was proud of. Some days were certainly harder than other others, but overall it got easier to create those pieces toward the end.
  • I learned that I'm not alone in a lot of my beliefs and experiences. I like to think that I don't really need validation for a lot of things, but it was really nice to know that I'm not the only girl in my 20's who's thought about keeping my last name, who didn't know what I was doing with my life all through college, who reads YA lit, and names their cars.
  • I'm especially excited about having taught myself iMovie so quickly. I've got lots left to learn, but I'm loving creating videos so far!
And a few things I borrowed off my BEDA buddies!
  • Like Nicola wrote, I learned it's easier to blog if you know someone's going to read it. It also makes it a little more intimidating to share some personal things, but it got easier after the first time I got positive feedback :) So thanks. I think I'll try to blog here more frequently than in the past, but it certainly won't be every day!
  • Like Autumn wrote, I like the idea of doing a monthly challenge of some sort. I'm not entirely sure yet what I'll do for May. I've always secretly thought I owned too many skirts. Maybe I'll wear a skirt every work day in May. :)
  • Like Christina wrote, I've really appreciate the (long) talks I've had with some people recently. I love the extended comment conversations on the Ning and Twitter. And the conversations I've had in the comments of my blog, or on gmail chat with new BEDA buddies. I never really expected my blog to open up those opportunities to me.
Thanks for being a wonderfully attentive and participatory audience. I wouldn't have gotten through BEDA without you. See you back here soon!

  2. I really enjoyed that Beckie. I agree with you on a lot of that, especially about knowing there are others out there going through the same stuff. It is so easy to forget that sometimes. This isn't the end buddy!

  3. In response to what you said on my post, I know what you mean - the cross-over of ideas we got out of BEDA buddies helped a lot, and that stuff is just good fun! It's so much easier to think of fun things to blog about when other people are doing it frequently, you can feed off one another more.

It's also great to see everyone's personal journey; it's been such a good experience for all of us. Finding out everything you guys have learnt has made me think of even more things I've enjoyed about it. I hope we continue to facebook & twitter it up!

April weekends

I just solidified plans for this weekend today when it hit me: my April weekends are all over the place, and well so very me. Keeping with my new reality of being around Dubuque much more often than I have in the past, I'll be here for 3 of the 4 weekends. Ok, and by here I mean mostly here. I'll explain below. April 6-7 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival --I went to the festival last year with Gretchen. We had so much fun! We ended up seeing a different set of films than we originally thought, but it was still a blast. I was lucky enough to attend the Beloit International Film Festival with Kyle and his family last month, and this year he's coming down to spend the weekend watching films with me. Plus Nicole will be around for the weekend so she's coming along too! April 13-14 Twins game with Amy--We've got tickets to the Twins-Mets game on Sunday so I'll be driving back up to The Cities (I was just there over St. Patrick's Day weekend). I have...

--Weekly Wrap Up--

Media/fashion round up of my week TV: One issue with being a fan of a British TV show? Having to avoid spoilers until you can find a copy of it online to watch. Thankfully a twitter acquaintance posted a link to Matt Smith's debut episode of Doctor Who. I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy the show without the darling David Tennant, but it was ok. I still enjoyed it. He's no David Tennant, but I'll definitely still watch. I love the cheeky humor. I also watched the first 8 episodes of season 2 of Veronica Mars while cleaning. Is there a better way to clean? Books: I finally got around to reading "If I Stay" by Gayle Forman. It's amazing. I got quite sucked in to the book. It had me sobbing by the end. I really appreciate books that can tell a story so well that I'm emotionally tied to the characters. If you haven't read it or are not a YA reader, you should pick it up. It's about a 17-year old girl who has a major decision to make about life. I...

Booklist

I found this in my RSS feed this morning and thought it was a nice way to start the day. It is a list created by the National Endowment for the Arts, and a blogger writes that they claim most American adults have read only six of these hundred books. I've read 23, but about half have been for school; however, some of those I chose to read for a class assignment. :) Here’s what you do: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. (Or in my case turn them green.) 4) Reprint this list on your own blog. 1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen 2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien 3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling 5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 6 The Bible (um, how many people have actually sat down to read the Bible? Like, straight through? I'm counting it because I read at least a chapter every night.) 7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte (I own it, but haven't read ...
