fast asleep, i awake suddenly
cool air on my upturned face
i quickly burrow back to the warm indent of my pillow
my mind grasping hopelessly
trying to gain on the fleeting dream
what was once vivid is now fading fast
i hear birds outside, traffic whizzing past the house
every sound dragging me further from my respite
try as it may, my mind cannot conquer reality
it puts up a valiant effort, but fails
i concede on the last front and open my eyes
morning has arrived.
